Air Canada announced this spring the launch of all-new seasonal summer flights between Montreal, Canada (YUL) and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (AMS) in the Netherlands. Air Canada’s new service will operate from June 2nd, 2023 through October 15, 2023, with five non-stop flights per week to the Dutch Capital and extremely popular tourist destination. This is Air Canada’s second route between Amsterdam and Canada, the other year-round service is based out of Toronto.

October Update: Air Canada has recently announced that it will plan an earlier restart to this service for 2024 with the seasonal service resuming on March 30th, 2024, increasing to daily service on this new route.

Additional Flights to Amsterdam from North America

According to an official release from Air Canada, the service will operate on their modern fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliner widebody aircraft. This brings yet another North American flight option on the busy route to Amsterdam via the broad Star Alliance Network out of Air Canada’s Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) Hub.

Air Canada also has major hubs in Toronto’s Pearson International Airport (YYZ), and Vancouver International Airport (YVR), with service to more than 180 airports in Canada, USA and abroad.

Using Sustainable Aviation Fuel ‘SAF’ to Reduce Carbon Footprint

Air Canada is partnering with a sustainable aviation fuel supplier in Amsterdam for this flight to use a new fuel sourced from waste cooking oil and other raw materials that are turned into sustainable aviation fuel. The new fuel will be used on some of the flights departing Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and is claimed to reduce ‘full-lifecycle’ greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%, according to the supplier.

Schedule

The Flights will be labelled as AC900 from Montreal to Amsterdam Schiphol operating Monday-Wednesday, and Friday and Saturday, and AC901 from Amsterdam Schiphol to Montreal running Tuesday-Thursday and Saturday and Sunday.

Air Canada’s Seasonal Montreal to Amsterdam Service resumes March 30th, 2024 with daily service on this new route.

Collect and Redeem Valuable Points on the Star Alliance Network

Another benefit for travellers is the ability to collect and redeem points on these trans-Atlantic flights with the Air Canada Aeroplan program, which continues to be my personal favourite program, or other Star Alliance partners such as United Airlines or Lufthansa, to name a few for those travelling to Canada from Europe or on to the USA.

Complimenting the new service for eligible passengers departing from Montreal (including Star Alliance Gold members) is access to the recently refurbished Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge. Completely refurbished in 2016 the lounge is spacious and offers the traditional Maple Leaf Lounge fare with quite extensive complimentary drink options, as offered in their lounges across Canada.
